Friday, June 6
The 2008 season for the St. Wendelin varsity track team closed with strong finishes at the Regional and State(!) Level. At the Regional track meet in Tiffin, Brad Kitzler scored a 14th finish in the 100 at 12.12, Brandon Reinhart a 14th in the long jump with a 18’8.5” jump, and Brandon again with the highest boys’ finish with an 11th in the high jump at a height of 6’ 0”. For the girl’s team, the 4 x 400 relay team of Clare Berry, Meghan St. Clair, Anna Iannantuono, and Alyssa Reiter finished 13th with a time of 4:22.09, and the 4 x 200 relay team of Alyssa Reiter, Alisha Holman, Clare Berry, and Jaunna Gase finished 9th with a time of 1:50.75, missing qualifying for the finals by just .19 of a second. Jaunna Gase finished 4th and qualified for state in 3 events. She opened with a 16.19 in the 100 high hurdles preliminaries, then set a school record with a 15.28 in the finals. In the 300 low hurdles, she opened with a 48.17 in the preliminaries, then followed with another school record of 46.03 in the finals. Jaunna finished 4th in the long jump with a leap 16’5.25”. The girls team scored 15 points for a 20th finish at the Regionals.
At the State track meet held at Jesse Owens Stadium on the Ohio State campus, Jaunna finished 5th in both her preliminary heats of the hurdles, running a 15.85 into a strong headwind in the highs and a 47.48 in the low hurdles, barely missing advancing into the finals in each event. However, in the long jump she scored a 7th place finish overall with a leap of 16’6”, earning her a medal place on the podium and 2 points for St. Wendelin at the State!
Congratulations to both the boy’s and girl’s teams this year on a great season, their hard work paid off in high finishes in the St. Wendelin and Booster Invitationals, and the MAL, District, Regional, and State events. We had great senior leadership and are looking forward to an even stronger 2009 season with almost 2 dozen returning letter winners!

The boys and girls varsity track teams wrapped up an outstanding weekend at the District track meet at Eastwood on Thursday and Saturday.
8 athletes qualified for the Regional track meet Wednesday and Friday next week. Moving on to Tiffin's Regional meet were Brad Kistler with a 4th in the 100, Brandon Reinhart with a 3rd in the high jump and a 4th in the long jump, Jaunna Gase with a first in the 100 high hurdles, the long jump, and a 2nd in the 300 low hurdles, the girls 4 x 200 relay team of Alyssa Reiter, Alisha Holman, Clare Berry, and Jaunna Gase with a 3rd, and the girls 4 x 400 relay team of Clare Berry, Meghan St. Clair, Anna Iannantuono, & Alyssa Reiter with a 4th. Also scoring for the Mohawks but not moving on the Regionals with 5th place finishes were the boys 4 x 400 relay team of Steven Berton, JJ Hrabak, Quinn Noel, and Brad Kistler, the 800 by Clare Berry, Brad Kistler in the 200, and Dylan Rickard in the shot. Scoring 6th place finishes were Quinn Noel in the 800, Mark Berton in the 3200, the 4 x 100 team of Clare Berry, Erica Holman, Alisha Holman, & Michelle Herman, and scoring 7th place finishes were Alyssa Reiter in the 400 & 200, and Dylan Rickard in the discus. The girls team finished 5th with 50 points and the boys 9th with 36 points, this was against a 17 team field.
Our Regional Mohawks will be competing next week with a chance to go to State! |

The varsity track team had a successful weekend at the MAL track & field championships.
The girls scored 82 points to finish in a tie for third with Old Fort in the 11 team field, the boys scored 56 points to finish 7th.
Jaunna Gase was 1st team MAL in two events, winning both the low and high hurdles. 2nd team MAL 2nd place finishers were the girls 4 x 200 relay team of Alyssa Reiter, Alisha Holman, Clare Berry, & Jaunna Gase, Jaunna Gase in the long jump, Brandon Reinhart in the high jump, Justin Hammer in the long jump, and Dylan Rickard in the shot put. Honorable mention all-MAL third places were taken by Alanah Frankart in the high hurdles, the girls 4 x 400 team of Clare Berry, Alisha Reiter, Anna Iannatuino, & Alyssa Reiter, and Clare Berry in the 100, Also scoring for the Mohawks were 4ths by Alyssa Reiter in the 200 & 400, Alanah Frankart in the low hurdles, Clare Berry in the 800, Mark Berton in the 3200, 5th places by the girls 4 x 100 team of Erica Holman, Alanah Frankart, Alisha Holman, and Michelle Herman, Lucas Holman in the high hurdles, Mark Berton in the 1600, 6th places by Michelle Herman in the 200, Quinn Noel in the 800, Brad Kitzler in the 200, Dylan Rickard in the discus, & Brandon Reinhart in the long jump, 7th place in the 100 by Brad Kitzler, and 8th place finishes by Michelle Herman in the 100, the boys 4 x 800 team of Mark Berton, Justin Ball, Dylan Kitchen, and Quinn Noel, the boys 4 x 200 team of JJ Hrabek, Justin Hammer, Lucas Holman and Brad Kitzler, Mark Berton in the 400, Lucas Holman in the low hurdles, and the boys 4 x 400 relay team of Steven Berton, Dylan Kitchen, JJ Hrabak, & Quinn Noel.

Saturday, May10
The varsity track teams competed Saturday against a strong 10 team field including 5 Division 1 schools at the Fremont Invitational.
The girls team scored 40 points for an 8th place finish, led by Jaunna Gase's 1st place finish in the 100 high hurdles. The Lady Mohawks relay teams also had good showings, achieving season best times in the 400, 800, and 1600 relays. The 800 relay team of Alyssa Reiter, Clare Berry, Alisha Holman, and Jaunna Gase finished 4th, the 1600 relay team of Clare Berry, Alisha Holman, Anna Iannatunno, and Alyssa Reiter finished 4th, and the 400 relay team of Erica Holman, Alisha Holman, Alana Frankart, and Michelle Herman finished 5th. Also scoring on the day were Clare Berry with a 4th in the 800, Jaunna Gase with a 2nd in the low hurdles and 3rd in the long jump, and Alanah Frankart 5th in the low hurdles.
The boys team had a tough day, finishing in a 9th place tie with Fremont St. Joseph. Scoring for the boys was the 4 x 1600 team of Justin Ball, Mark Berton, Cory Baker, and Quinn Noel with a 5th place finish.

Thursday, May 8
The varsity track teams traveled to Sandusky for the Northwest Ohio Catholic Schools Association championships, the boys scoring 73 points to finish 4th and the girls 65 points to finish 5th respectively in the 6 team fields.
The Mohawks were led by 1st place finishes by Brandon Reinhart in the high jump and the girl's 4 x 200 relay team of Alyssa Reiter, Alisha Holman, Clare Berry, and Jauna Gase. 2nd place finishes were scored by Jauna Gase in the long jump, Clare Berry in the 800, Alyssa Reiter in the 200, the girls 4 x 400 team of Clare Berry, Erica Holman, Alyssa Reiter, & Anna Iannantuono, the girls 4 x 100 relay team of Erica Holman, Alanah Frankart, Alisha Holman, & Michelle Herman, Dylan Rickard in the shot, and Lucas Holman in the low and high hurdles. Finishing 3rd were Alyssa Reiter in the 400, Justin Hammer in the long jump, and Mark Berton in both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. 4th places were scored by Clare Berry in the 100, Brandon Reinhart in the long jump, and the boys 4 x 100 team of JJ Hrabak, Lucas Holman, Justin Hammer, & Brad Kistler. Scoring 5th places were Katherine Sobczyk and Dylan Rickard in the discus, the boys 4 x 200 relay team of JJ Hrabak, Lucas Holman, Justin Hammer, & Brad Kistler, Steven Berton in the 400, and the 4 x 400 relay team of Quinn Noel, Cory Baker, Dylan Kitchen, and Steven Berton. Rounding out the scoring with 6th place finishes were Rachel Volkmen in the discus, Katherine Sobczyk in the high jump, Jauna Gase in the high hurdles, and Brad Kistler in the 100.
The track teams are in action Saturday in the Fremont Invitational.

Friday, May 1 The varsity track team competed against an 8 team field Friday night at the Gibsonburg Invitational.
The boys team finished 4th while scoring 69 points, the girls scored 86 points while missing the 2nd place trophy by one point to
Sandusky St. Marys.
Jaunna Gase took the only Mohawk first place in the long jump. 2nd places were scored by Jaunna Gase in the low and high hurdles, Lucas Holman in the low and high hurdles, Clare Berry in the 100 & 800, Quinn Noel in the 800, the girls 4 x 200 relay team of Alyssa Reiter, Alisha Holman, Clare Berry, and Jaunna Gase, and the girls 4 x 400 relay team of Clare Berry, Alisha Holman, Anna Iannantuono, and Alyssa Reiter. 3rd places were taken by Dylan Rickard in the shot put and discus, Kathryn Sobczyk in the discus, Alyssa Reiter in the 400, Mark Berton in the 3200, and the boys 4 x 200 relay team of Lucas Holman, Justin Hammer, JJ Hrabak, and Brad Kistler. Saturday April 26
The varsity track teams had a great weekend versus 6 other teams in the Fostoria Athletic Booster Invitational Saturday.
Behind a dramatic come from behind 2nd place finish in the last race of the event, Alyssa Reiter anchored the 4 x 400 relay team of Claire Berry, Alisha Holman, and Anna Iannantuono past Old Fort to take the overall second place team trophy. Jaunna Gase had another outstanding performance, taking first place in both hurdle events and the long jump, and joining with Alyssa Reiter, Alisha Holman, and Claire Berry to win the 4 x 200 relay. Claire Berry added a 2nd place finish in the 100 and 5th in the 800, Alyssa Reiter 2nd in the 200 and 3rd in the 400, Alanah Frankart 3rd in the low and 4th in the high hurdles, Michelle Herman a pair of 5th place finishes in the 100 and 200, Meghan St. Clair 6th in the 400, and a 6th place finish by the 4 x 800 relay team of Meghan St. Clair, Kristy Ressler, Marina Lucio, and Anna Iannantuono.
The boy’s team scored 85 points to finish 4th (compared to last year’s 14 point 7th place finish), scoring points in every event except the pole vault. Dylan Rickard won the shot put and finish 4th in the discus, Brandon Reinhart had 2nd in the high jump and 5th in the long jump, Brad Kitzler 3rd in the 100 and 4th in the 200, Mark Burton 3rd in the 3200 and 6th in the 1600, Lucas Holman 3rd in the low hurdles and 5th in the high hurdles, Steven Burton 3rd in the 400, Quinn Noel 4th in the 800, Justin Hammer 4th in the long jump, the sprint relay team of JJ Hrabek, Justin Hammer, Lucas Holman, and Brad Kitzler with a 2nd in the 4 x 100 and 3rd in the 4 x 200, 4th in the 4 x 800 by Mark Burton, Cory Baker, Dylan Kitchen and Quinn Noel, and 4th in the 4 x 400 by JJ Hrabek, Cory Baker, Quinn Noel, and Steven Burton.
The track team is in action again Friday night at the Gibsonburg Invitiational.

Tuesday, April 22
The varsity track team had a tough night at Carey Tuesday night, both boys and girls teams finishing 3rd to Arlington and Carey. St. Wendelin winners were Dylan Rickard in the discus, Brandon Reinhart in the high jump, Lucas Holman in the low hurdles, Jaunna Gase in the high hurdles, Alanah Frankart in the low hurdles, and Clare Berry in the 800 meter run. The track team will be in action Saturday against 6 other teams at the Stadium in the Fostoria Athletic Booster Invitational, come support our team! |

Saturday, April 19th
St. Wendelin hosted the First Federal Track Invitational at the Stadium Saturday. 16 teams competed and again the track team had a strong showing.
The girl's team captured the 3rd place team trophy, with a first place in the girl's 4 by 200 relay (Clare Berry, Alyssa Reiter, Alisha Holman, and Jaunna Gase) and 1st places by Jaunna Gase in the 100 high hurdles, 300 low hurdles and the long jump. Clare Berry was 4th in the 800 and 5th in the 100, Alyssa Reiter 7th in the 200 and 8th in the 400, the 4 by 100 relay team (Clare Berry, Erica Holman, Alyssa Holman, and Michell Herman) finished 6th, and the 4 by 400 relay team of Meghan St. Clair, Alisha Holman, Anna Iannantuono, and Alyssa Reiter scored an 8th place finish. Jaunna Gase was also named outstanding female runner of the event.
The boy's team finished 9th against a strong field of teams. Dylan Rickard placed in both throwing events, 4th in the discus and 5th in the shot put. Brandon Reinhart finished 5th in the high jump and 7th in the long jump, Lucas Holman finished 6th in the 110 high hurdles and 5th in the 300 low hurdles, Mark Berton finished 4th in the 3200 and 5th in the 1600, the 4 by 800 relay team of Mark Berton, Cory Baker, Dylan Kitchen, and Quinn Noel finished 7th, and the sprint relay team of JJ Hrabak, Justin Hammer, Lucas Holman, and Brad Kistler scored 7th in the 4 by 200 relay and 8th in the 4 by 100 relay.

Tuesday - April 15
The varsity boys and girls track team had another strong showing Tuesday night at the stadium versus Hopewell-Loudon and North Baltimore.
The girls team won with a score of 83 points vs. 59 for H-L and 15 for N.B. The boys team was a close second to H-L, scoring 60 points to H-L's 75 and N.B.'s 29. First places were taken by the girl's 4 x 800 relay team of Kristy Ressler, Anna Iannatiuno, Ellen Kittinger, and Meghan St. Clair, Jaunna Gase in the high hurdles and long jump, Clare Berry in the 100, 800, and 1600, Alyssa Reiter in the 200 and 400, the 800 relay team of Alyssa Reiter, Alisha Holman, Clare Berry, and Jaunna Gase, the 400 relay team of Alisha Holman, Alanah Frankart, Erica Holman, and Michelle Herman, and the 1600 relay team of Alyssa Reiter, Anna Iannatiuno, Alisha Holman, and Meghan St. Clair.
The boy's team was paced by first places in the shot put by Dylan Rickard, Justin Hammer in the long jump, Brad Kistler in the 100 and 200, and Mark Berton in the 1600. Many strong team finishes by both squads contributed to a very good night at the track.

Saturday - April 12
The track team competed against 15 other teams on a very cold, windy, and rainy day at the Lakota Invitationals Saturday. 6th place over all was a very respectable showing for the girls' team. Scoring in all but 2 running events is testimony to the athletes' dedication and fortitude. Jaunna Gase was able to score 1st in the high hurdles, 2nd in the long jump and along with Alyssa Reiter, Allysa Holman, and Clare Berry scored a second in the 4 x 200 relay. The 4 x 100 team of Alanah Frankart, Alisha Holman, Erica Holman, and Michelle Herman scored a 4th overall. Clare Berry also had a 5th in the 800, 6th in the 100, and 8th in the 1600. Alyssa Reiter contributed a 4th in the 200 and a 7th in the 400, and Jauna Gase and Alanna Frankart scored 6th and 8th in the 300 hurdles.
The boys had a tougher row to hoe finishing 11th. Scoring 5th places in the shot was Dillon Rickard and Brandon Reinhart in the high jump. Mark Burton scored 6th place in the 2 mile, 6th in low hurdles went to Lucas Holman, and 6th was placed in the 4 x 100 relay with Lucas Holman, Justin Hammer, JJ Hrabak, and Brad Kitzler. The relay teams also scored 7th places in the 4 x 200 and 4 x 800. The team is fighting some injuries but hope to be at full strength for this Saturday's St. Wendelin invitational at the stadium. They are in action Tuesday at home vs. Hopewell-Loudon and North Baltimore, come out to the stadium and cheer them on!

The boys and girls track teams opened the season with a strong showing at Lakota versus Elmwood, Lakota, McComb, & Genoa Christian. The boy's team finished 3rd with 81 points, with 1st places being taken by the 4 x 800 relay team of Quinn Nole, Dylan Kitchen, Mark Berton, and Cory Baker and the 4 x 200 relay team of Quinn Nole, Brad Kitzler, Justin Hammer, and JJ Hrbek.
The girl's team finished 2nd, scoring 88.5 points and missing 1st by just 3 points. 1st places were taken by the 4 x 200 relay team of Alissa Reiter, Alisha Holman, Juana Gase, and Clare Berry, Clare Berry won the 800 meter run, and Juana Gase won the 100 high hurdles, 300 low hurdles, and the long jump. The track team will be in action again Saturday at the Lakota Invitationals. |
