Course Description:
Students will explore the math
topics with greater detail & understanding.
Students will be challenged with problems on both homework &
tests/quizzes that will make them think, & not just calculate a simple
answer. The class will move at a faster
pace & be able to cover more material in the sophomore year.
Homework:
It is usually assigned everyday & will be corrected on the next
day in class. It should be done in
pencil & corrected in pen. The
number wrong should be on the top of the paper & a mark through the
incorrect ones. The work should be done
on loose-leaf notebook paper and have your name, page number,
and numbers assigned at the top of the paper. Credit will be given for the number of
problems tried, not the number
correct. Homework will be worth 10
points and a student that has tried all the problems , corrected the homework in pen, & shown the proper amount of work on
necessary problems will receive all 10 points.
A student will receive less points if not all problems have been done,
it has not been corrected, or work has not been shown. The assignment must be
done at the beginning of class to be given full credit. Late homework will be
worth 5 points at most. Late homework
must be turned in by the end of the next class; a 0 will be put in the grade
book after that. Homework will be 15% of the final quarter
grade.
Notes:
All students will be expected to
take notes every time that they are given.
The students will keep these notes in a three ring binder. I will collect & grade these notebooks
every few weeks & it will be part of the student’s notebook grade. A student that misses a class will be
expected to get the notes from a classmate.
Notebook:
All students will keep a notebook that includes the
notes that we take & the homework that has been passed back to the
students. Any handouts given should be
hole-punched &put in this notebook.
This notebook should be brought to EVERY class & should be
kept organized so that I know where to look when grading it. The notebook will not be graded if I can’t
find what I am looking for. Late
notebooks will have points deducted from the grade. The notebook will be 5% of the quarter grade.
Materials:
Bring all materials with you everyday to class; do
not ask to go to your locker to get something you forgot. The materials you should bring everyday to
class are the following: textbook,
notebook, pencil, paper, pen, calculator
(I do not have extras to give you.)
Tests/
Quizzes:
They will be given at different
points through out the unit and will be graded on the point system. They will all be worth 100 points, whether a
test or quiz is given. The percent will
be what goes in the grade book. There
will be smaller quizzes given once a week
that will be put together & count as one quiz score at the end of
the chapter. These smaller weekly
quizzes will not always be announced before the day they are given. Tests/quizzes will be 80% of the quarter
grade..
Retakes:
Any student who gets a grade lower than a 70% can
re-take a test or quiz in hopes of improving their grade. An average of the two scores will be taken
with 70% being the highest grade possible to earn. All retakes need to be taken by a set date
that will be determined after each quiz/test.
Make-up
Work:
If you miss class, you should see me before the next class
meeting in order to get what work you missed.
You can also check in your folder to see what class work you missed that
day. You have as many days to turn in
the work as the number of days you were out.
Quarter
Grade:
The quarter grade will be based on
the point system for each category of grades.
Tests/quizzes will be worth 80% of the grade, homework will be worth 15% of the grade, & the notebook will be worth 5% of the
grade.
Students are expected to remain
seated while I am teaching. A student
should ask to use the restroom at the beginning of class, or while we are doing
seat or group work. This is also the
time when a student should get a tissue or sharpen their pencil. It is to distracting to have students walking
in front of the class while other students are trying to learn. A student may get up if there is an
emergency.
