SPANISH 3 OBJECTIVES

LISTENING.  The student will continue skills from Spanish I and II and also

            Recognize how poetry sounds different from prose.

 

SPEAKING.  Building on Spanish I and II, the student will:

1.  Retell a story, shifting from first, second, and third person.

2.  Produce complex sentences correctly.

 

READING.  The student will continue skills from Spanish I and II while greatly expanding vocabulary.

 

GRAMMAR.  Beyond the structures learned in Spanish I and II, the student will learn the following grammatical concepts:

  1. Imperfect tense
  2. Uses of past tenses
  3. Future tense
  4. Conditional tense
  5. Past progressive tense
  6. Past participles and present perfect tense
  7. Past perfect tense (pluperfect)
  8. Conditional and future perfect tenses
  9. Reciprocal uses of reflexive verbs
  10. Present subjunctive mood
  11. Uses of present subjunctive (adjective, adverb, and noun clauses, after certain verbs, impersonal expressions, and conjunctions
  12. Past subjunctive mood
  13. Idiomatic uses of “to become”
  14. Uses of “se”
  15. Time expressions (¿Cuánto tiempo hace que…? Hace (length of time) que….., ¿desde cuándo?, etc.)
  16. Adjectives used as nouns
  17. Possessive pronouns
  18. Por and para

 

WRITING.  The student will continue writing skills learned in the past and will:

  1. Compose sentences, paragraphs, compositions and narratives about various topics.
  2. Use a dictionary to select words that are connotatively correct.
  3. Summarize a story or relate an event, using descriptive words and phrases.
  4. Compose letters, both personal and business, employing correct style, heading and conclusion.
