POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Class Materials:

Students are required to bring to each class:

• ¡Buen Viaje!-2 textbook
• Spanish binder with color-coded pack and current Spanish handouts
• Pens, pencils, good eraser

Not having these will result in a detention.

Classroom Behavior:

Behavior is expected to be in accordance with the Code of Behavior given in the Student Handbook.

We respect one another and provide time and place where each student can learn.

Homework:

Normally, students should spend 40 minutes on Spanish homework.

• Students should record their assignments in their Planner.

• Written work should be neatly done.

• Spanish assignments need extra care given to sentence structure, spelling, accents.
• Paragraph composition should be drafted first on working paper, edited and then copied in a final form to submit for grading.
• Vocabulary learning: students should learn about 600 vocabulary words / expressions each year. Each student should develop his / her own system for learning and reviewing vocabulary.
• Games in www.2nse.org are very helpful.

Absence from class:

Students who are absent from class are expected to contact the teacher for the missed lesson so that when they return to class, they are prepared for the new lesson.

• Sister M. Elayne will e-mail the handout to the home, if requested.

Asking for tutoring is expected.

Missed Tests / Quizzes

Students are expected to come to the teacher as soon as possible saying that

• they have the missed homework and

• they are ready to take the missed test or quiz.

Missed tests and quizzes are administered at 7:40 a.m. and at 2:40 p.m.

They should be taken before the corrected tests are returned to the rest of the class.

Grading Procedure:

Students are evaluated for a variety of language skills: pronunciation, vocabulary, reading comprehension, written compositions, speaking fluency, cultural understanding, grammatical structures.

All grades are based on 100%.

Usually a homework assignment is worth about 1/3 of the grade. The corresponding quiz or test is about 2/3 of the grade.

The student’s average is based entirely on the quiz/chapter test-homework combinations of the respective quarter of the year.

Tutorial or Small Group Help:

The teacher is the best tutor, if a student needs one, because she knows what specific help the student needs. As soon as a student’s grades fall into the D category, the student is required to stay for help on Monday and Wednesday from 2:40-3:30.

Any student is welcome to come for extra help at any time.
