SPANISH 2 OBJECTIVES

LISTENING.  The student will:

  1. Follow simple directions in Spanish.
  2. Comprehend meaning of isolated vocabulary words, simple phrases, idiomatic expressions
  3. Comprehend words that are elided in the manner of normal speech.
  4. Comprehend definitions given orally by using previously learned vocabulary and cognates.
  5. Comprehend materials presented by various native speakers at near-native speed
  6. Recognize differences between formal and familiar ways of expression.

 

SPEAKING.  The student will:

  1. Pronounce all vowel diphthong and consonant sounds at an appropriate level.
  2. Pronounce (isolated) words correctly and with appropriate stress.
  3. Use isolated vocabulary in simple contexts.
  4. Maintain a conversation with another person.
  5. Give oral directions and explanations in Spanish.
  6. Retell, shifting from first, second, and third person.

 

READING.  The student will:

  1. Read and comprehend sentences and paragraphs with structures ranging from simple to complex.
  2. Comprehend questions related to the reading material.
  3. Read aloud in the target language.
  4. Read and comprehend directions, short reading selections, dialogues and poems.

 

WRITING.  The student will:

  1. Use capitalization and punctuation and diacritical marks (accents, tilde, etc.) correctly.
  2. Write correctly from dictation materials.
  3. Compose answers to questions in complete sentences.
  4. Create dialogues utilizing appropriate pronoun and verb forms.
  5. Translate sentences from Spanish to English and from English to Spanish.
  6. Compose sentences, paragraphs, compositions and narratives about various topics.

 

GRAMMAR STRUCTURES.  The student will learn the following concepts:

  1. Conjugation of all verbs studied in the following tenses: imperfect, future, conditional
  2. Use of passé compose and imperfect tenses
  3. Use of tenses in si clauses
  4. Conjugation of all verbs studied in present subjunctive
  5. Use of present subjunctive after impersonal expressions and expressions of feeling
  6. Use verbal constructions using prepositions à and de followed by the infinitive
  7. Construct sentences using the forms of the comparative and superlative
  8. Direct and indirect object pronouns
  9. Go from questions using est-ce que to inverted form
  10. Join two sentences to form a complex sentence using relative pronouns: qui, que, où
  11. Time expressions with depuis and ça fait
