FRENCH 5, Advanced Placement

 OBJECTIVES

LISTENING.  The student will:

  1. Listen to tapes and answer comprehension questions.
  2. Listen to 5-6 minute tapes from Advanced Placement exams and take dictation checking for listening comprehension, spelling, and syntax.
  3. Watch video programs in French on varied cultural topics.

 

SPEAKING.  The student will:

  1. Create appropriate oral dialogue for picture sequence or events real or imagined as on an Advanced Placement exam.
  2. Create a dialogue of substantial length and present on videocassette.
  3. Participate in oral discussions on topics introduced in class.

 

READING.  Beyond the skills learned in French I, II, III, and IV the student will

  1. Read and comprehend selected short stories that have been edited.
  2. Read contemporary French periodicals and newspapers and answer comprehension questions.
  3. Read selections from Advanced Placement exams and answer comprehension questions.
  4. Read selected literary pieces and periodicals for comprehension.

 

GRAMMAR.  Beyond the structures already learned, the student will learn the following grammatical concepts:

  1. Advanced idiomatic expressions.

 

WRITING.  The student will continue writing skills learned in the past and will:

  1. Write 3 papers of 3-5 pages each quarter.
  2. Write literary analyses of various French works of literature.
