| TESTS |
| There will be approximately two tests given
per unit. Tests may be re-taken if the
score is below 70%. The |
| average of the two tests will be recorded up
to a maximum score of 70%. All tests
will be averaged and |
| counted as 60% of the quarter grade. Semester exams will be given and will count
as 20% of the semester |
| grade. |
| PROJECTS |
| When
projects are assigned, they will be counted in the "test"
category. Projects are due on the
designated |
| due date whether the student is in school
that day or not. 10% of total points
will be lost per day late. |
| QUIZZES |
| Announced quizzes and unannounced homework
quizzes will be given frequently to check basic |
| understanding of covered material. One quiz grade for every four taken will be
dropped. Quiz grades will be |
| averaged and counted as 20% of the quarter
grade. |
| HOMEWORK |
| Homework is usually assigned every day. It is due the next class period unless
otherwise assigned. Late |
| homework will not be accepted. (Students may not go to lockers during class time.) One day for each
day |
| of an excused absence will be given to make
up homework. (The
day the student returns to school, even if |
| class does not meet that day, he/she is
expected to get the missing assignment from the teacher or another |
| student.) |
| |
| Homework will be scored according to the
number of problems attempted, not according to the percent of |
| accuracy.
The working of the problem must be shown, not just the answer, to
receive credit. One homework |
| grade will be calculated and counted as 20%
of the quarter grade. Opportunities
will be given to earn |
| homework passes. Such a pass replaces one night's
assignment. Homework passes may never
be used |
| for two consecutive assignments. |
| GRADES |
| Mid-quarter and quarter computer printouts of
grades will be given to each student.
These do not have to be |
| brought back signed. Normal rounding rules will be used. However if a student has a borderline
quarter |
| grade (e.g. 92.01 up to 92.49) and has a 100%
homework grade, the grade will also be rounded up |
| because
of the effort shown. |
| GRADING SCALE |
| A=93 to 100 |
C=77 to 84 F=below 70 |
| B=85 to 92 |
D=70 to 76 |
| CALCULATORS |
| A graphing calculator is required for this class. TI-84+ graphing calculators may be
purchased |
| through the school. A rental plan is also available. |
| GENERAL RULES |
| All math will be written in pencil. Pencils may not be sharpened while the
lesson is being presented or |
| during a test, quiz, or announcements. All homework should be graded with a red
pen. |
| |
| Cheating will not be tolerated. No credit will be given to anyone involved
- whether on a test, quiz, or |
| homework.
Working together on homework can be beneficial…copying homework
benefits no one! |
| |
| Candy or other food may not be used in the
classroom. Permission for use of cough
drops |
| should be obtained before class begins. |
| |
| NOTE:
Violation of any general classroom rule may result in demerits and/or
work after school! |
| EXTRA HELP |
| Extra
help time is available after school on most days. It is suggested, but not necessary, that
you |
| make an appointment. Please feel free to ask for help. Sometimes just an extra five-minute |
| explanation will help make the material so
much easier to understand. |
| |
| MATH WORKSHOPS |
| Math
workshops will be held when there seems to be a need for extra help on
certain topics. These will be |
| offered after school whenever students ask
for them. Listen to the daily
announcements for times and topics. |
