Syllabus Physics St Wendelin Catholic High School 2007-2008

I.    Introduction

A.     Instructor Mr. Ron Bowerman

B.     Students are reminded to see class agenda for classroom, evaluation and other related features

II.   Physics is the study of physical forces and qualities.

The scientific study of matter, energy, force, and motion,                         and the way they relate to each other.

A.     Chapter one will give more details

B.     Aviation will be used a way of demonstrating physics in a real application.

1.      Students will be involved with modeling, designing, researching, experimenting, testing design ideas and they will be evaluated as they work

a.      wing spar design and testing (Force and Motion)

b.      radio controlled models will be built and flown (electromagnetic spectrum)

c.       research will look at ultralight design for The Arch Angel (Science and Technology)

d.      historical aircraft parts will be built (1909 military flyer and Vin Fiz projects) (Historical Perspective and Scientific Revolution)

e.      Vernier technology (lab pro sensors) will be used to collect data ( Science and Technology)

               f.   The agenda covers evaluation and grades

                  (See Agenda)

                       C. State/Diocese benchmarks and outcomes for 11th and 12th

year students are focused on the study of matter

energy as well as force and motion

                        D. Subtopics to also be considered

               1. Work and Energy (Lift/Thrust)
