Grading Scale 93.0% = A, 85% = B, 77% = C, 70% = D,
F=69
Your quarter grade will be determined
through the use of a point system. Tests, quizzes, homework, and worksheets
will be the major part of the grade (80-90%) while the rest of the grade
(10-20%) will be from lab depending on the number of relevant labs available
for the given material. Class participation, daily preparation, and overall
attitude may be taken into consideration when determining your grade. It is
your responsibility to keep all of your returned/graded papers so that you may
have a record of your own grade. There will be periodic opportunities for extra
credit (see below). Homework will be graded in a variety of ways. It may be
graded on effort, individual problems may be graded for correctness, or it may
be graded on whether or not it is done (correct or not)
Classroom Routine All students must have a notebook
exclusively used for this class. In this notebook, keep all notes, formulas,
charts, and homework. You may want to have another binder to keep all returned
papers in. You are expected to do daily journaling in your notebook.
(Who,When,Where and What) If you feel you are falling behind or simply have any
questions, I will be available in class or by appointment (before, during, or
after school on odd days). When you miss class, it is your job to come to me
and get any missed materials and turn in overdue materials. You will also be
able check HW on line. When you miss a class, you are expected to see me the
day you return to school I will expect you to show up with any due the
assignments. You can also call me at home before 11: 00 PM. 419-299-3807. This
is also true if you are having trouble with an assignment.
Review for tests.
Generally, reviews will be held the class
meeting prior to the test. Tests will be announced at least 2 class meetings in
advance. Missing the review day will not excuse you from taking the test; you
are expected to take the test with the rest of the class. With valid excuses,
make up tests will be given before or after school. All tests must be made up
within one week of the original date. You will also be given a study guide for
every chapter we study this year. It will be returned to me on test day. If you
fail to return it, you will not get that guide to study for semester exams.
Lab. You are required by state law to wear
school-approved goggles AT ALL TIMES
while performing a lab. You are to follow the teacher and lab manual
instructions at all times. Severe injuries and penalties may result from any
unauthorized activities in the lab.
Lab Write-ups All labs are to be typed or will not be
accepted except for extenuating circumstances. A good lab write up is written
so that the reader knows exactly what you did, why you did it, how you did it,
and your results and analyses. In other words, your lab report should include,
Title, Hypothesis, Materials, Procedures, Data/Results, and Interpretation of
results. You should also include future applications - which is a brief idea or
thought on how this experiment could be used in a real world setting.
Cheating. Anything considered cheating by the
teacher would result in a zero for the assignment and possible further
punishment. I consider direct plagiarism as cheating!
Attendance/Tardy.
All procedures in the St. Wendelin handbook will be followed.
Extra Credit
It does not totally replace required work!
Opportunities for extra credit may not be
made up and may arise from the following criteria.
1. Typically, if you take the test on or
before the day it is scheduled, there will be bonus opportunities on that test.
2. Internet activities brought to your
attention by the instructor
3. Any other opportunities will be
announced when they arise or proposed by the student.
Student proposals are subject to the
instructor’s approval.
