Mental Retardation
  • Term used when people have certain limitations performing everyday functions.
  • Can cause child to learn and develop more slowly than other children.
  • They are able to learn, but it takes them longer than other children.

What causes retardation?
  • Genetic Conditions.


  • Problems during pregnancy.


  • Problems at birth.


  • Health problems.

Blindness
  • The absence of ability to see visual images.
  • Many times, in other countries due to malnutrition and infectious diseases.
  • Lack of vitamin A.
  • Pigmentary degeneration of the retina.

Deafness
  • Temporary or permanent loss of hearing.
  • Most causes come from a defect in the ear.
  • These are divided into two types.
  • Conductive hearing.
  • Sensorineural hearing.

Dwarfism
  • A pathological condition of arrested growth.
  • Most common cause among children is “Turner Syndrome.”
  • Caused when two x-chromosomes are defective.
