Art Room Guidelines

1.         Enter the room on time and in a responsible manner, immediately taking out your project and the tools you will need to begin work.  Projects should be researched before class so you can keep up with assignments.

2.         Work on art work during class time.  Socialize later.  It works better for everybody.  Keep on task until time to clean up.

3.         Make every attempt to complete your work by the due date.  Talk to me if you believe you will not finish on time.  I will give you one week to complete the work outside of class.  Outstanding work will then have two points deducted daily for another week, and then will not be accepted.

4.         Before leaving the art room, clean your area and any tools you used.  Keep the floor clean in your general area.  Return all Art Department materials and tools clean to their proper storage place.  Only your own tools are to be kept in individual baskets or with projects.

5.         Write your name LEGIBLY in the lower right hand corner of the back of your art work.  This is how I know who gets credit for the work.

6.         Finished projects go into the box labeled “Artwork to be Graded.”  Once it is in there, do not go digging around in the box.  Chalk and pencil smudge easily, and you might damage other work waiting to be graded.

7.         Graded stuff will be on the clip for your class.  Someone will be assigned to return these to their owners.  I recommend you keep all graded work.

8.         We use some tools and chemicals that could hurt you or someone else.  You MUST OBSERVE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS AT ALL TIMES.  You are not allowed to BLEED in here.  Be very careful with scissors, razor blades, hobby knives, and linoleum and wood cutters.

9.         Don’t write on the tables or chairs or carve up any furniture.  I will have to throw you out of class if you do.  You will get a zero for my course.  I won’t even feel sorry for you.

10.    You will have a homework assignment due every week.  Assignments will be posted on Tuesday, and will be due the following Tuesday.  If you are an over-achiever, you may turn it in as early as you like.  If you are like most of us, you need to remember to submit your homework by the end of the day on Tuesday, whether you have class or not.  Work not in the homework bin by the end of the school day on Tuesday will be considered late.  Late work receives half credit.  After Wednesday, homework will not be accepted.

AVERAGING GRADES in ART

PROJECTS – 60%

Every project is worth 100 points.  Projects that take three weeks         or longer to complete count double.  A TEST is weighed the same as a project.

HOMEWORK – 15%

There is a homework assignment each week.  It is worth up to 10 points.  Assignments are posted on Tuesday and are due the following Tuesday.  Homework will be addepted one day late, but will receive only half credit.

QUIZZES – 5%

Written quizzes may have 5 to 25 points.  Some preliminary projects are graded as quizzes.

JOB – 10%

Each student is assigned a clean-up responsibility which they complete each class.  Failure to complete the job costs 5 points each incident from this part of the grade.  These jobs change each quarter.

DAILY WORK – 10%

This includes coming to class prepared, using class time efficiently, treating fellow students with respect, caring for art supplies properly, and following safety precautions.

OTHER NOTES ABOUT the ART PROGRAM

We have a text book which students use part of the time.  It must be covered.

Students must obtain a three-ring binder for handouts, classroom notes and assignment instructions.

Supplies are given to students on the first day of class, and are theirs to keep.  They are assigned a basket in which to keep their supplies.  Art I students sew a pencil pouch to hold pencils, erasers, and brushes.  If they do a good job, it will last all four years of art.

Art II students receive a large portfolio in which to keep their work in progress.  Portfolios are to be retained for Art III and IV.

Students may bring their own supplies from home to keep in their baskets.  They may also lock their baskets, and I highly recommend locks.  Students are responsible for their own supplies.
