·        knowledge and understanding of basic chemistry concepts.

·        knowledge of the interaction between matter and energy.

·        knowledge of and ability to use the scientific method.

·        the ability to use critical thinking skills.

Purpose & Scope:

We will begin with a discussion of the properties of matter and the scientific method, and review units of measurement. We will study atoms, periodic law, chemical bonding, formulas, equations, reactions, stoichiometry, and applications.  Along the way we will discuss career opportunities and current research.
