INTEGRATED MATH 1
CLASSROOM OUTLINE
Mrs. Geroski
Classroom goals and
rules:
Goals:
1. To appreciate the gifts God has given to each of us and appreciate the diversity each person brings to the classroom.
2. To question and understand the “whys” and “hows” of mathematics rather than becoming “mathematical robots”.
Rules:
1. Please be in your seat when the bell rings with homework ready to check, pen and pencil available and textbook open to the correct page.
2. All work is to be done in pencil.
3. Share positive comments with classmates rather than negative put downs.
4. Working together outside the classroom is strongly encouraged! Copying another person’s answers or work constitutes cheating. All parties involved will receive a 0 and given a detention. Copying the answers from the back of the textbook is also cheating. Anyone found doing so will not receive credit for the work.
Evaluation:
Tests-Tests are given after major topics. A test may be re-taken if you receive a score below 70%. You will be given the average of the two tests up to a maximum of 70% (it is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements for a retest). Tests will be counted as 60% of the quarter grade. All retests must be completed prior to the next topic test.
Unit projects- A project will be assigned each quarter and will relate to the topics studied. Each project will count either as a test score or two quiz scores.
Quizzes-Unit quizzes and pop quizzes will be given frequently to check basic understanding of covered material. Quizzes will count 20% of the quarter grade.
Cooperative Learning grade sheets-Learning to work together in a group (team) will be an important part of this course. A cooperation grade will be given after each chapter and averaged in as a quiz grade. (Students earning 100% on their cooperative grade sheets will also receive a homework pass)
Homework- Homework will be given daily (with a few exceptions) and will count as 20% of the quarter grade. Please refer to homework guidelines on the back of this sheet.
Notebooks- Notes will be given daily (with a few exceptions). The date and lesson number should be listed at the top of each page of notes. Notes are to be turned in with homework the next class meeting. Notes will be graded on a scale of 0-3. Once your notes have been returned, they need to be placed in your notebook in chronological order. Notebooks will be collected and graded once or twice a quarter. The grade will consist of the total number of points earned for daily note taking and points awarded for having the notebook put together in an organized manner. All quizzes should be kept in the notebook. This guideline sheet and the homework policy should be the first pages of the notebook. The notebook grade will be averaged in as a quiz grade.
Journals- Writing is an important avenue for developing a deeper understanding of concepts. You will be asked to write for homework, on quizzes and tests and in journals. Journal writing will be done on notebook paper and all writings will be kept in your notebook. The writings done in your journal will be graded individually and totaled at the end of the quarter for a quiz grade.
HOMEWORK
POLICY:
ü
Purpose-
Homework is assigned as a way to refine and extend your knowledge of what we
have learned in the classroom.
ü
Frequency-Homework
is usually assigned daily and needs to be completed by the next class meeting
unless otherwise noted.
ü
Evaluation-Students
are assessed on the number of problems attempted and whether you have shown
work where needed and followed directions.
There is no penalty for answers that are not correct. Each assignment is scored based on the number
of problems assigned. The homework grade
for the quarter is the total of all the homework grades divided by the total
number of problems assigned for the quarter.
ü
Late
homework-Late homework is not accepted.
ü
Doing
homework- All homework needs to be done in pencil. Homework done in pen will be a 0 (zero). Homework should be graded with a pen. A response should be written for all
problems. Use a highlighter to circle
problems that give you trouble as a reminder to check on them the next time
class meets.
OTHER:
I enjoy the opportunity to
work with students individually. Please,
please, please feel free to see me for extra help when having difficulty or
when you want to do some further exploring.
I am here on the even days by 7:30 a.m. I sometimes will be finished before 2:35
p.m. However, if you give me some
notice, I can be here after school on any day.
From March – the end of May, I will be here everyday after school.
