St. Wendelin Jubilee Grant

Are you thinking your child could benefit from a St. Wendelin Catholic School education, but tuition is an obstacle?

A grant was established in 2000 in honor of the 150 th anniversary of St. Wendelin Parish to assist St. Wendelin families who might not otherwise be able to afford their children quality Catholic education. Two Jubilee grants are awarded annually on the basis of financial need and the families’ overall circumstances. Awards of $250.00 will be given for two years to two FIRST TIME STUDENTS in St. Wendelin Elementary School, grades 1 through 5. Applications are available in the St. Wendelin Elementary School Office, 300 N. Wood St., and in the Parish Office, 323 N. Wood St. The application must be completed and returned no later than Friday, April 18, 2008.

The William and Corrine Reineke Scholarship

This scholarship is a $500.00 ($250 for 2 years) is awarded annually to two students who aspire to continue their Catholic education at SWCHS. To be considered, an applicant must be registered to attend St. Wendelin Catholic High School, and submit an essay explaining how a St. Wendelin Catholic High School education will benefit him/her. Essay applications will be accepted at the elementary and high school offices until Friday, April 18, 2008.

Rev. Donald S. Hunter Memorial Scholarship

The Hunter Scholarship was established in 1992 through the generosity of two individual Catholic laity who firmly believe in the benefits of Catholic education. It was founded in memory of the late Fr. Donald Hunter, a priest in the Toledo diocese and principal of St. Wendelin High School from 1954-1967. Fr. Hunter committed himself to the education of youth for many years in his priestly ministry. This sustaining scholarship is established in recognition of high academic commitment and achievement, regardless of financial need, and is awarded each June to four students (two from St. Wendelin Elementary and two from St. Michael Elementary, Findlay) according to established criteria, including highest GPA's, desire to continue a Catholic education at the secondary level, and good moral character. Currently, the total amount awarded each year is $1,000.00 ($250 each scholarship).

Karcher Music Scholarship

An endowment has been established by Richard E. and Garland M. Karcher, donated in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary and in gratitude for God's blessings. This $500 scholarship fund was established in 1999 as a fitting tribute to their commitment to St. Wendelin Schools and their love of music. Their generous gift has been invested through the Educational Foundation, and its earnings are awarded annually to juniors and seniors at St. Wendelin High School who have demonstrated past and present musical achievement, pursuit of academic excellence, extracurricular and community involvement and personal accomplishment. Applications are available in the spring. The application must be completed and returned no later that Friday, April 11, 2008.

The Frank and Mary Bugner Scholarship

$125.00 is awarded annually to a St. Wendelin eighth grade graduate who is registered as a SWCHS freshman, and is renewable for all high school years, as long as the student is enrolled at St. Wendelin. To be considered, an applicant should submit a 150-200 word essay entitled “Why is a Catholic education at St. Wendelin High School important to me?”

Essay applications will be accepted at the elementary and high school offices until Friday, April 18, 2008.

The Gusto and Guadalupe Lopez St. Wendelin Education Fund for Hispanic Students

This educational Fund has been established in gratitude for the Lopez family’s support of St. Wendelin Parish & Schools, the Guadalupe Society, and the Migrant Children’s Program.  Its purpose is to assist Hispanic families in providing a St. Wendelin Catholic education for their children.

The Dean W. Sheibley Memorial Science Scholarship

The scholarship was established in memory of Dean W. Sheibley, Class of 1953. To honor Dean's lifelong commitment to Catholic education, and his dedication to a career in Chemical Engineering, his sisters, Carol ‘54 and Jeannine ‘58, established this scholarship to be awarded annually to a graduating senior who plans to pursue a career in the scientific field. The application must be completed and returned no later than Friday, April 18, 2008.

The Timothy G. Gregory Memorial Scholarship

This has been established to honor the memory of Tim Gregory ’04, who died tragically in July 2007. Tim was a gifted athlete during his high school years. The annual award will be granted to a deserving student athlete, graduating in 2008 from a Midland Athletic League School, who best exemplifies the same spirit and determination that Tim displayed on and off the playing field. Applications, which must be submitted no later than March 29, 2008, are available in the high school and guidance offices.

Diocese of Toledo- One Faith…Many Blessings
Grants for Catholic Education

A significant part of the One Faith…Many Blessings campaign is providing students with needs-based financial aid. For the 2008-2009 school year, $90,000 will be used for aid to families sending their children to Catholic schools. In order to help families in all parts of the diocese, financial aid will be distributed in 6 geographic regions, based on the total number of students in each region. Parents will be required to complete application forms, available in March from both school offices and on cyss.org. The application for the $700 grant is to be returned to the student’s principal no later than May 16, 2008. Grants are not automatically renewed; application must be made each year.

Tuition Incentive Program

St. Wendelin Catholic Schools offers a $200.00 tuition incentive for parents who are successful in seeking out and finalizing a new family registration (K-12) for the 2008-2009 school year. In order to receive the tuition incentive, the new registering family must have completed the Initial Contact Form with your name noted as the contact. The new family must remain in our school system for 6 months; at that time the $200.00 incentive will be applied toward the current year’s tuition or the following year’s tuition. Please check with either school office if you are referring a new family to our schools.
