Doors to Success

Values

St. Wendelin Elementary is "alive with the gospel of Jesus". Explicitly and implicitly, personnel form the students in Gospel values especially love for God and neighbor, forgiveness, peace and justice. Daily religion classes, weekly worship and service projects reinforce these values.

Academics

St. Wendelin Elementary is fully accredited by the Ohio Catholic School Accrediting Association. The staff implements the courses of study approved by the Ohio Department of Education. At each grade level students receive instruction in mathematics, language arts, reading, science health, social studies, art, music and physical education. A computer teacher provides instruction in keyboarding and word-processing. Supplementing instruction in basic skills are such programs as drug abuse prevention, human sexuality, library science, and multicultural awareness.

Special Services

In addition to the core curriculum, the special services program includes Title 1 reading, remedial reading, tutoring for the learning disabled, speech and language therapy and a special enrichment program for academically talented children. A school nurse cares for the children's health needs.

Faculty

A highly qualified faculty, one Sister of Notre Dame and twenty-six women, staffs the school. The Ohio Department of Education certifies all teachers; 80% have more than 5 years experience. The support personnel (librarian, secretaries and teacher aides) assist the teachers and students. The average student-teacher ratio in each classroom is 20:1.
