  • Loose-leaf notebook paper
  • Pencils (no pens, highlighters or markers)

  • Music Alive! Magazines -  will be provided in class

 

INTRODUCTION TO COURSE

In this course we will be taking an in depth look at famous composers throughout history.  They include…

 


ü      Bach

ü      Beethoven

ü      Brahms

ü      Copeland

ü      Debussy

ü      Handel

ü      Joplin

ü      Mendelssohn

ü      Mozart

ü      Stravinsky

ü      Tchaikosky

ü      Verdi


 

We will also spend some time looking at music history during the points of history you study in your history class.

 

GRADING

Grades will be determined by Earned Points/Total Points Possible

  • Tests:  There will be a test at the end of each unit.  Tests will be saved in a binder to serve as study guides for semester exams.
  • Quizzes:  Announced quizzes will be given occasionally.
  • Class work:  Worksheets will be given occasionally.  Taking of additional notes will be required class work.
  • Homework:  Homework will be given very occasionally.  Any class work not completed in class may be taken home to complete.  It is due the next period, at the beginning of the period.  Late work will NOT be accepted.  Any work turned in without a name will be counted as zero.
  • Class Participation:  You will start with 100 points a month.  This will be lowered at anytime for tardiness, not being prepared and class disruptions.  The first offense will result in 1 point being deducted from your 100 points.  The second offense will result in 2 points being deducted, the third offense will result in 4 points being deducted, and so on.

 

 

 

GRADING SCALE

 

A  100% - 93%        B  92% - 85%        C  84% - 77%        D  76% - 70%        F below 70%

 

MAKE UP WORK

  • Absent students must get their work immediately and are given one day for each day of an excused absent to complete the work.  The student is expected to get missing assignments the day they return to school, even if they do not have a class.  I will not come to you about missed work.  Please check with me!
  • Projects are due on the due date.  If you know you are going to be absent, turn it in early.
  • Students excused for school-sponsored activities will be expected to complete work before the activity

 

GENERAL RULES AND EXPECTATIONS

«     Students are expected to be respectful of others (listening to others, not talking over others, and refraining from comments that could be hurtful).  Negligence of this rule will result in a 30 minute detention, before school, on the Friday of the week it occurred.  If you do not show up for my detention, a school detention will be given.

«     Cheating will NOT be tolerated.  No credit will be given to anyone involved.  A 30 minute detention, before school, will be given on the Friday of the week it occurred.  If you do not show up for my detention, a school detention will be given.

«     Be in your seat and ready to work when class begins.  Participation points will be deducted for not following this rule.

«     Bring all materials to class everyday.

«     No chewing gum or food is allowed in class.  PLEASE, feel free to bring a water bottle!

«     No pens, markers or highlighters allowed in class.  I will confiscate any that I see.

«     Remain in your seat until the teacher dismisses you.  The bell does not dismiss you.

«     Students are not permitted to go to their lockers during class.

«     Follow all school rules set out in the handbook.  Consequences will be given accordingly.
